Srinagar, Oct 17: In Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district, 19 personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were injured in a road accident on Thursday. According to officials, the driver lost control of a truck carrying personnel from the 181 Battalion F Company in the Khag area of Budgam.
An official said, “The truck carrying personnel from CRPF’s 181-F Company lost control and skidded off the road, falling into a ditch. As a result, 19 CRPF personnel were injured. A rescue team arrived at the scene immediately and extricated the injured personnel. They were shifted to a hospital in the town of Charar-i-Sharief in Budgam district for treatment.”
The official added, “Nine of the injured have been referred to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment. Doctors have reported that two of the injured personnel have sustained serious injuries.”
Road accidents in the Valley are often caused by speeding and reckless driving, particularly on challenging terrains.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, a private car was hit by an oil tanker in the Mammar area on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway, about 42 kilometers from Srinagar, resulting in one death and two injuries. Officials stated that the driver of the private car was attempting to overtake a line of slow-moving vehicles when the car collided head-on with an oil tanker coming from the opposite direction.
The police have registered a case regarding the incident and have taken the oil tanker driver into custody. The two injured occupants of the car were treated at a local hospital and later discharged. The deceased was seated in the front seat of the car when it collided with the oil tanker.
